Desert-olation

We have finally made it to the desert. There is a beauty to the low scrubs and nothingness, and a breeze! Finally!

And already made a friend.

We are staying at Brantley Lake State Park New Mexico and it's the only water we've seen for 450 miles since Dallas.

Yesterday we made out way to the Sixth Floor Museum and JFK memorial. It was a somber experience.

This is the book depository:
Here is the grassy knoll:
And the view of Houston street:
Mark did his civic duty of buying a ten dollar JFK memorial paper off of a bum. He did not, however, accept said bum's offer for a guided tour of the area.

The unique memorial is supposed to represent Jfks openness to opportunities and change.

Then to cowtown, where the west begins, Fort Worth.

Got to sit on a bar-saddle stool...
And enjoy some buffalo butt beer...

And for the main event, longhorns! Even they seemed defeated by the afternoon sun...
And imagine carrying 6 feet of horns!

Petie met a local too!
But it can't all be fun and games...laundry still has to be done. Luckily our motel had one with a pool next to it.

Then we has an unbooked evening, so decided another Rangers game would do. This time with a sausage sundae (mashed potatoes, brisket and Mac and cheese as toppings) and frozen beer.

On our way to New Mexico, there was an interesting contrast between the massive expanse of oil pumps, or "Nodding Donkeys", and wind turbines.
