Everything is bigger in Texas

Left the bayou behind for the grasslands of Texas. For about 100 miles the roads out of Lousiana are raised above the wetland. Then came the cows...

We wanted to get some beach in at the gulf, so took a detour into Galveston, mind you it was 4th of July which means so was everyone else.
It was definitely a cultural experience, as well as a seaweedrific one. Also the beach had an odd smell to it so we did not stay as long as we had planned.
We were hoping for camping, but we were being chased by a nasty thunderstorm, so we decided to drive onward to San Antonio. Check out the dark sky in the rear view.

It was very difficult finding an open hotel on the side of route 10 and when we did it was an overpriced Motel 6, blah!

Today we headed to see the Alamo and loved the scenic river walk!

We even saw a Teddy Roosevelt watering hole where he rounded up his rough riders!

Then we landed our first campsite at Government Canyon on the outskirts of San Antonio. The shade is a must!
